Dental inlays are porcelain restorations that fill the space between the cusps of teeth. These restorations are indicated when additional support is needed that a dental filling cannot provide. Less tooth structure is removed compared to a crown, making dental inlays a more conservative restoration.
Like dental inlays, dental inlays cover one or more cusps of the entire biting surface of the tooth. Sometimes referred to as "partial crowns" due to their extensive dental coverage, dental inlays are the last option before a crown. Like crowns and bridges, inlays and Onlays are permanently cemented to the tooth.
Crowns are permanent restorations cemented onto existing teeth or implants. Crowns are most often used to completely cover or "cap" a damaged tooth or implant. The typical lifespan of a crown can vary from 10 to 15 years, depending on various factors. Crowns typically require two visits, but we offer same-day dental crowns at our Green Hills and Lebanon locations.
